Huc veni lentis gradibus, videque
Nomen hic sculptum super hoc sepulchrum
Mox solo nato pariter quiesces
                                      O moriture!
Nam semel certe morientur omnes;
Pauper et dives coeunt eodem;
Ambo tunc equi: tumulis, eādem
                                      Sorte, jacebunt.

In Memory of LUKE BENNETT Esqr,
who died May 26;th 1795 Aged 70 Years

Walk slowly as you approach, and see
The name carved here on this tomb.
You will soon be at rest in the earth with your son.
                                       You who are going to die!

All will at some time surely die;
The rich man and the pauper go together to the same place;
Then they will both be equal: they will lie in their graves
                                       Sharing the same fate.
