All members of the national association in this area are of course invited to take part in the activities of the North Staffordshire branch (whose membership also embraces North Shropshire and parts of South Cheshire. This branch was founded in 1950 by Lord Lindsay, first Principal of the University College of North Staffordshire (now Keele University), and its first and 50th anniversary general meetings were both held in Keele Hall. The membership has continued to keep the study of the Classics alive and, it is hoped, both informative and entertaining, since the transfer of Keele's Classics department to Manchester University at that date. A particular debt is owed to Susan Deacy, the Secretary from 2000 - 2004, for her hard work and enthusiasm in restoring the branch to a healthy state, and for her great contribution to Classics in North Staffordshire and the surrounding area. Susan was later a member of the CA's national Council.
Admission to meetings is free to all, but national members and others wishing to support the work of the branch are invited to make a local subscription to help to fund its activities. From August 2005 this has been 5 per annum, ideally payable by standing order - please contact the Secretary, Stephen Clifford, for an electronic or hard copy of the pro forma, or you may download a Word03 version by right clicking here: Standing Order for Local Subscription.
The Branch changed its bank account in January 2018, to avoid charges imposed by our previous banker - all existing members are asked to use the new standing order mandate to update their payments.
The branch is also grateful for the support of the Societies for the Promotion of Hellenic and of Roman Studies, each of which co-sponsor a lecture meeting each year.
We look forward to welcoming new members to our meetings.
